We have been getting a lot of questions about our TV show High School lately. Will we get a season two!? What’s going to happen in Season 2?! We don’t know yet about the renewal. But hopefully, we hear soon. We have however read the second season scripts and they are amazing! While we wait for news we wanted to start a thread to talk about the show. Tell us your favourite parts, what you hope happens in Season 2, and what else you’re watching right now! T&S
This is all so sweet! Love hearing your feelings and about your fave moments! It's so nice to hear. You guys are going to love Season Two! The scripts are so good. I think it will be so cool to see the story continue!
I lost count of how many times I've watched High School, it's definitely a comfort show for me, it has dark themes but it's also light and easy to watch? Maryam and I are recapping every episode of the show on our podcast "We Just Wanna Talk", cross-referencing the memoir! Anyways, hoping for season two!!!! I have too many favourite parts to mention (really) but what I hope for season 2 is Tegan's character development, I feel like we've seen Sara go through so many experiences but Tegan not so much. #renewhighschoolonfreevee let's make some noise!!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
I really hope High School gets another season!! I'm actually starting a rewatch this week, it's been too long! I hope there's a few guest appearances in season 2 (*cough* Natasha Lyonne *cough*). I want to see what happens with Tegan and Cas and how that will affect the friendship with Maya....
I'm trying to get everyone I know to watch High School! Let's hope they listen to me lol.
Okay, admittedly I’ve only viewed the show once, but I plan to watch it again.
But things I love?
To be specific:
I’m old fashioned. I don’t need full blown sex scenes to know two people are together. Especially gay women. It was nice to see sex not be a focal point.
I also enjoyed how we had everyone’s perspectives. Parents and children. Friends. That was cool.
Piggybacking off of that, it was nice to see the parents not portrayed as idiots nor the teenagers portrayed as totally insufferable.
So essentially, I find this show a breath of fresh air. It’s different and funny and real and oh so relatable. And it’s based off of Tegan and Sara! What’s not to love?!
My wife, who was somewhat anti-Tegan and Sara, watched the show with me. Now she's giving me tour updates and we're coming to see you guys in Nashville - VIP even! That's been the best part!
First of all, I loved the entire first season, it's hard for me to pic a favorite scene. Some of my favs are: The Violent Femmes scene with Sara and Phoebe, discovering Patrick's guitar and starting to play and record together, the cliffhanger at the end Tegan being worried about Sara's situation. These are just a few, thanks for asking. I really hope there is a season two, I want more!!!! #renewhighschoolonfreevee
I only watched it once, besides the bus stop scene ⛄️ the other two scenes that stood out to me was when Simone is talking at that gathering and Patrick was watching her beaming, I was like “aw he loves her” (knowing what’s bound to happen later😬). The other that is scorched in my brain is when Phoebe’s mom said no more sleepovers, if ever I saw someone shrink to the size of a pea on TV it was in this scene, incredible🔪💔 (and then I immediately wanted to give *real* little Sara a hug). — Oh and dad with the random egg thing. Why? I need answers I tell you. Lol.
EDIT: rewatched the series. The egg question is answered.
It’s really hard to pick favourite moments because as a collective the season is just so, so good. Because I also ‘grew up’ in the 90s, the music throughout the first season added that extra special something for me- & the nostalgia, wow, still on that trip right now 🤓😆
I honestly never thought I would ever watch a show that so honestly & so accurately portrays how it was & how it felt to grow up in the 90s; being queer, or thinking you might be queer, not knowing how to deal with all the feelings you had, feeling like an outsider, like you didn’t quite fit in somehow, but desperately trying to find somewhere that you did fit, somewhere you belonged... I remember thinking this when I first read your memoir, & so to now see it on screen is honestly amazing.
The scene at the Green Day show made me jump out of my seat & scream though 😆 I was obsessed with GD back in the late 90s & wish I could have seen them live that early on in their career (2001 was the 1st & only time I’ve seen them-found the ticket stub the other day!) so I loved seeing this part.
Very excited to see how season 2 will continue the story, & keeping everything crossed it gets renewed ❤️x❤️
Ps. As for what else I’m watching at the moment…well I am rewatching Wentworth (Prison) again because honestly, one of THE best shows & one of my all-time faves- definitely give it a go, trust me, a few episodes in & you’ll be hooked. Just finished rewatching a show called Line of Duty & so now I’m looking for something new to get into & binge, if you have any recommendations? x
I love your story. I’ve told my friends to give High School a read (or listen - which I prefer.) I also made them promise me they’d watch High School.
I have little experience with coming out but you and Sara mentioned multiple times how hard it was to admit it during that time of your lives. I would love to see how that happened in Season 2. How did you tell each other? How did you tell your parents? Your friends? You are idols to many so seeing how you came out may be used as a road map of sorts. We have always maintained to our five year old that love is love no matter what gender or race or whatever. I would hope he would be comfortable coming out to us but if not, I would hope there were some cool and courageous Canadian twin musicians he could emulate. I would also like to see how you built your signature banter. I listened to the jokes you made in the memoir but seeing that on screen would be magic. And finally, to feed my behind the scenes addiction, when and in what way did Sara decide to choose Tegan and Sara the band over Uni?
I am all choked up with excitement about another season and can’t wait to see what happens.
Until Season 2 comes out, Kate and I are watching:
- Shrinking on Apple TV (it is Ted Lasso with a different plot, really)
- Ted Lasso on Apple TV
- Three Pines on Amazon
I am watching:
- Mandalorian on Disney
- The Last of Us (I’m not at the end so no spoilers) and I gotta say, the writing is brilliant.
My favorite part was in episode one when the girl in the student center asked Tegan if she went to some elementary school and Tegan said no. I laughed soo hard.
Favourite parts of the show? Jeez, where do I start!? I know this was more of a technicality than part of the show but I love how the episodes are named after T&S songs. I remember noticing it before even starting the show I saw the first episode title and thought ‘huh what a weird coincidence’ to check if it was a coincidence my eyes cautiously turned to the next episodes (I didn’t want spoilers) and I saw it wasn’t a coincidence at all! So awesome! In terms of actual scenes, I’m not sure, there was so much great stuff! I love the witty comments exchanged between young T&S, even though some of it was made up as part of the tv show it feels like your seeing the start of the witty banter all your fans have grown to love. A personal favourite ‘witty comment scene’ of mine was the stick up your ass one! So funny!
I also love how we see I perspective of your mum’s too, what it’s like for her (what it might’ve felt like for her).
It was all so fantastic! It’d be a crime not to get at least a season 2!
What else have I been watching?
I’m half way through a dystopian fantasy series called ‘sweet tooth’ which I’m loving.
I’ve been watching ‘The Glory’ which is a dubbed Korean show (hard to describe without spoilers).
I’ve also been re-watching the Jurassic park’s. Did either of you see the Jurassic park films?
Anyway, awesome show (yours)! I’d better go to sleep.
The relationship between Maya and Tegan is so sweet, and watching Maya feel neglected by Tegan pulls at my heartstrings. All the actors are amazing, especially the young ones, the casting is impeccable. Watching Seazynn and Railey sing your old songs is super exciting. I look forward to Sara's story, because it should get even more intense!
I’m in my third rewatch of High School and really hoping for good news about a season two! My favorite things about it are too numerous to name; the use of music in the show, how excited both Tegan and Sara get as music fans and also when they discover Patrick’s guitar. All the friendships!! It is so fucking relatable. The joy and sadness of teenage life. I’m in my feelings. I recommended High School to a close friend I grew up with and she LOVED it. It was a new thing for us to bond over. We started middle school in 1995, WHAT A TIME. Side note: my partner loves the show too, and he doesn’t usually get so into shows as much as I do. By episode 3, he was saying how great Railey and Seazynn were, and how believable and relatable the show is. Heartwarming nostalgic perfection. Clea and Laura are brilliant, the whole cast is great! Just finished The Last of Us, so diving back into High School is a welcome change!
Love the show, I was laughing at your TikTok because my dog also likes to watch when we had it on, or she just likes to snuggle us while we were watching?! My Girlfriends fave episode is episode 2, do you, Sofia or Georgia have a fave? lol :)
Tegan, please help us get the tag going. @parokodeby and I (@wantthemaximum) on Twitter created the tag in December and want it to be used by fans in hopes High School gets more promo and a better chance of renewal. Please help us get the tag #renewhighschoolonfreevee trending on Twitter, everyone. All we need is team work.
We are also making edits on TikTok. I have an entire account dedicated to High School edits only called @wiccanfolknightmare. Deby and Ash and many other TikTokers are posting edits, too. Please interact with them as much as you can so we can get more people discovering the show.
I loved the jealous friend. Because a lot of my early crushes manifested as jealousy or feeling entitled to a friend's time, feeling intense feelings that I normally wouldn't feel about a friend. But I had no idea what it was until I realized I was queer! She is such a poignant truthful character.
I’ve watched the show at least 5 times! It’s a comfort show for me. So I’m really hoping we get a season 2! 🤞It’s hard to pick a favorite part as I really just enjoyed the whole season. For season 2, I’m looking forward to see if Tegan continues to be oblivious to her own feelings and how Maya feels about her. Along with her new friendship with Cass. Also to see how the sister bond between Tegan and Sara continues to develop.
Tegan and Sara, I don't think you saw my comment it's the first or last on regards to my favorite moment, episode and about Seazynn and Railey. I thought of another, definitely Sara/ Seazynn violent femmes moment, and someone else said the fact there is no true focus on sex sex scenes, just small moments of intimacy are perfect. "Hey Sara can I borrow your stick, what stick, the one I your ass" classic..
Seazynn and Railey are so freaking amazing!! Colby is just amazing always. But I think those two girls worked so hard and did so so good. Mind blowing. And Clea is a genius as is Laura! CLEA is just so magical and a brilliant mind. Seazynn and Railey have gone pretty silent since the show.. they doing OK? I know Seazynn is way more shy, yet on tik tok you would of thought she was an extrovert! I love that she is so shy. "Well if you don't want to work in pizza anymore" lol
Really hoping for a season 2! I love Cobie as your mom and how the episodes are named after your songs! In the next season I hope that Natasha Lyonne makes an appearance! I definitely need to give season 1 a rewatch! I just watched Only Murders In The Building which I loved and I'm also hoping for the renewal of A League Of Their Own.
Oh hell, let's see I've watched the series 15 times easily, read the book 5, currently listening to the audio book with you and Tegan reading.
First you will have a season 2, the IMBd rating is 7.2 out of 10 and we rotten apples totally days will happen. Must happen.
Favorite part well fudge nuts that's tough, I have a hands down favorite moment it lasts all of 15 seconds but it's so perfect and funny I did a duet on tik tok to it. Episode 2 Sara you drop acid the first time and you and Tegan are calling for your check in with mum. Well Sara the way Seazynn acts out the part on the phone "hey mom what's up" I can watch that all of 10 second clip for days.. she nailed that so perfectly.. also I love the scene when your mum is so upset about the girl who died and feels guilty and you/ Seazynn walks out and the exchange of are you drunk, are you ok, you tell me the truth, I'll tell you the truth, such a sweet, touching moment. I could go on but those two stand out, and of coarse when you write "tegan didn't go to school today"
Oo exciting about the scripts, really hope you get to make them. Everything crossed about a Series 2. It would be so deserved, and there’s so many moments from the book that we would all love to see brought to life on screen. And even more of your high school story, so deserves to be seen and to be told. And also to see more Cobie as Sonia! So will keep re-watching when I can. 😊
I do have a question that I have wondered though. I always meant to ask it, and it came up again on the rewatch.
In Episode 7, do you know what the thinking was behind deciding to give the, You can’t say “f*g” moment to Sara in the TV show, instead of to Tegan. Because obviously as you know in reality in the memoir, it happened to Tegan. I was always really curious and interested about that decision.
One thing I really enjoyed was the music in the show especially Railey and Seazynn singing I'm Alive and Plunk. The lyrics of those two songs inspired me to listen to more of you guys music and I have been a fan ever since. A second thing I really enjoyed is how genuine and real the show felt. When I watch the episodes I feel at home. A third thing I really enjoyed was Cobie playing you guys mom. It felt right and I really enjoyed the scenes that she was in. My favorite scene is the scene where Tegan builds a snowman, asks Sara for her stick, and states that the snowman has a swimmer's body. My second favorite scene is where Sara sings along to Kiss Off by the Violent Femmes. I hope in season 2 that Tegan and Cass become closer. My other favorite shows are NCIS Hawaii, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and Will Trent.
I’m recommending High School to everyone I know. Cobie as Sonia is so good. She made me tear up when she broke down. My favourite part was the rave, it was spot on with the early illegal rave I went to as a teen. Totally took me back to my raving days. The cast is amazing and I’m keeping everything crossed for season 2. I’m just starting The Kids In The Hall 2022. Was so excited to see they had made another season! ❤️
It didn’t occur to me how powerful it would be to see my experience as a queer identical twin reflected on TV until it happened! Since watching I’ve reflected a lot on how excruciating that time was - to be so intimately witnessed while really wanting to hide, hooking up with the best friend my sister and I shared and then going through the turmoil of our “break up” that I couldn’t talk about or even contextualize for myself on top of trying to navigate the tension the situation caused with my sister. I feel like the show really captured the experience! I found it v e r y relatable. Would love a second season.
Love the show sooooo much! I tell anyone who will listen to me about it. I got my mom, some friends, and coworkers to give it a try and have heard back only positive reviews! This show would have done wonders for me to see as a closeted boy in super small town Michigan thinking there was absolutely no future for a geeky weird, music obsessed kid unable to come to terms with his own sexuality. To be honest it wasn’t until I finally moved and was in a larger city (Minneapolis) at 25 that I could even say the words, “I’m gay”. Going to turn 36 this year and haven’t looked back since! 😊
As of favorite moments, the one that popped into my head right away was when your mom is in the car blasting Tori Amos! All the music is sooooooo good in the show. It definitely sets the tone quite wonderfully.
I’m excited to see more of what is to come of the show, especially since your memoir spoke to me in many more ways than I could explain.
Bravo on a beautiful first season and 🤞🏻many more to come!
I SO hope we get a season two! I've been telling my friends they *need* to watch! I'm about to start another rewatch after I finish binging How To Get Away with Murder. I also loaned my friend the book and I'm so eager for her to read it! It's hard to pick my favorite parts, but I can't wait to see more of Tegan and Maya because I relate so much to the storyline. Words can't describe how different my life might have been if I'd had this show as a teenager. I grew up in rural Idaho in a town of 300 people, and I didn't even really know what gay/lesbian was. Let alone that *I* was.
My favorite part was everything involving "Tegan Didn't Go to School Today" but especially the moment the girls started singing it together. That hit me right in the fanhood.
Honorable mention to the snowman with the swimmer's body.
I don't know what I want to see in season two as I believe in keeping my expectations low. You're never disappointed if you don't dream, kids!
so I've watched High School 4 times now 🫣it's SO GOOD
I was about 14 when I started listening to T&S, around 2000/2001, so it felt extremely full circle for me.
It kind of feels like I'm watching my adolescents. I instantly loves the entire cast. There's so many moments that are charming as hell. and relatable. gah,
I can't say enough about it.
I've literally told so many of my friends and clients (I'm a hairstylist) and offer my login info to those that can't access, just so they can watch it. 🤣
In season 2, I just want it to pick up exactly where it left off!! talk about cliff hangers! I want to see what happens next!!!
Did Sonia drive off? What happens with Sara and Pheobe? Did Tegan perform by herself that night? what happened the rest of the highschool years??
I’m not sure that you’ll even see this comment now but if you do Tegan I thought of another show you should give a try. It’s called Happy Valley, based in North England (so you ‘may’ need subtitles if you can find anywhere that will stream it over there 😆) It’s just aired the final season over here after waiting 7 years since the last one. It’s one of the best British shows in a long time. I believe The Baroness Von Sketch Show (fucking amazing-wish I could watch that over here) did a sketch based on it showcasing the obsession for a cup of tea if I remember correctly 😂 Anyway it’s a tough watch in parts but incredible acting and again very gritty 🚨
My fav fav thing about the show is that it’s like legit one of the only good representation of twins in the media especially gay twins, such a small minority. The feelings Sara has about feeling bad for leaving tegan out but wanting something to herself, especially a partner, is soooooooooo relatable. Over all it’s just such a comfort to see my own like reflected onto something so beautifully and thoughtfully made, it’s legitimately one of its kind. Really really hopes it gets a season two I think it would be a crime otherwise!
This is all so sweet! Love hearing your feelings and about your fave moments! It's so nice to hear. You guys are going to love Season Two! The scripts are so good. I think it will be so cool to see the story continue!

We need a Season 2 of High School
I wish I could have been this brave when I was a young back in the early 70’s
My wife, who was somewhat anti-Tegan and Sara, watched the show with me. Now she's giving me tour updates and we're coming to see you guys in Nashville - VIP even! That's been the best part!
No pressure :)
