Hey all! Tegan reached out and asked if she could post something here on my Substack since she’s technically still on her year-long break from the internet. Being the generous sister that I am, I agreed. Of course, I’ll be adjusting our monthly revenue split accordingly to reflect my charitable donation of space. - Sara
Hi, it’s me, Tegan.
I hope you are all well!
I know, I said I was offline for the year, taking a full break from social media and the internet, but I have some news! Felix Cartal has finally announced his new album I, Sabotage and since Sara is still posting here on Substack I figured I’d borrow her for a minute to tell you about it because we have a song on the album called Right On Time!
I met Felix a few years ago. We live near each other and did that classic artist thing—“let’s grab a coffee sometime”—which usually translates to “we will never see each other again.” But Felix wasn’t like that. He actually followed up. We went for coffee, then drinks, then more coffee. He was funny and kind, easy to be around, and he talked about music and creating in a way that reminded me why I liked making things too. Before long we were tossing around the idea of collaborating.
I don’t really like collaborating. Not even with Sara, if I’m being honest. Writing for me is usually a solo thing, me digging through my own head until I find something worth saying out loud. But Felix made the process feel fun. We talked about dance music, about Sara and I sneaking off to raves as teenagers, about the joy of building something that can make people move. We played around with a few ideas, but it was this tiny melody I’d been carrying around that really lit the spark. I sent it to him, and together we stretched it into a whole new song that eventually became Right On Time.
Fun fact, Felix did like…900 versions of the song. He might be the hardest working and most particular guy in music! He cares. DEEPLY about what he makes. I think that’s very cool.
We shot a video for the song in case you want to see it!
Since then, Felix and I have kept up our coffee dates. I introduced him to iced chai lattes, which I like to think changed his life, and he continues to inspire me with his passion and his belief in music as a way of bringing people together. His new album I, Sabotage comes out October 17th! and you can pre save it here.
Thanks for reading, thanks for supporting Sara on Substack, and go save Felix’s album. See you in the future.
xo,
Tegan
