The time when I play a Christmas movie EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Thought I would share a list of SOME of my favourite holiday movies. Let me know if there are any I should add to my list. Also, this is sort of strategic because this year there are SO MANY new Christmas films, so I’m hoping people reading this letter to you will drop some NEW movies for me to check out in the comments. Like apparently there are tons of gay Hallmark Christmas movies. But I’m too lazy to search. Someone helps me narrow down the search. But first! Below though are thoughts on holiday movies I watch every year.

· Scrooged – This Bill Murray classic came out in 1988. When we were eight years old. We watched it a lot growing up. As kids, you and I spent every Christmas Eve but one (1995 when we went to Atlanta) with Dad. Most years we would go visit his siblings, deliver lottery tickets, eat Chinese food, and skate on Lake Bonavista, but we’d always end up back at whatever house or apartment dad was living in and watch Scrooged before he took us back to mom. So, this is the one movie on the list that has to be watched on a specific day. Christmas Eve. This year I am hosting Christmas Eve, but we’re making it an afternoon affair. After you all go home, I’ll be watching Scrooged. As always.
· National Lampoons Christmas Vacation – A classic that needs no explanation. The way you can watch The Social Network more than once a year, I can watch this holiday movie at least two or three times over the course of December. Brings back fond memories, but also just makes me laugh. I think I might be the Clark Griswold of our family.
· Die Hard – Some people don’t know this is a holiday movie! I typically play this one in the first week of December. I kick off my holiday season by baking cookies, or SKOR bar and watching this in the background. Such a great movie.
· Carol – This one I typically watch only once a year, and often alone. The Price of Salt is one of my favourite books of all time, I don’t think this adaptation comes close to the magic of the book. But there is something incredibly alluring about it even though it’s super depressing. Also, there aren’t that many queer holiday films! So I gotta support.
· Happiest Season – This is new to my Christmas film canon. I love this movie. Not just because it’s gay, or because our friend wrote and directed it, and our song Make You Mine This Season is in it. I just actually love it. Aubrey Plaza 4eva.
· The Polar Express – I don’t really love animation or these half-cartoon-half-real-looking kids’ movies if I’m being honest. But last year I watched part of the Polar Express with two of my favourite children (shout out to Charlie and Leo) and I was kind of down with it. So, I’ll add it to the roster this year and bake something while I watch it (not get baked, actually bake) and we’ll see if it sticks around a second year.
