Listen now | Part 1: Will Sara survive her solo trip to Calgary or will she become a cannibal and make a shelter using bones and coffee filters scattered among the wreckage?
Does anyone else read/listen, then look at the pictures, read again, listen again while looking at the pictures again? or is that just me? The first day of school feeling and early morning flight feeling is described so well here.
The feels I get hearing you tell us this and talk about my home city with all the things I recognize. Feels unreal. That's one thing that I love about high school and it never gets old even after 6 times through the audiobook. You made it real for me and that gave me confidence to find the authentic me and show her the world. Thank you. Hope to catch a glimpse or stumble on a set. I do live right in the middle of the hood you grew up in. Lotsa love. Stay warm. It's gonna be cold a few more days.
I just want to comment on the photo of the Mountains. Mackenzie (your cousin) told me to watch out for when we flew over the Rocky Mountains on our way to Calgary from Vancouver when I was over in Canada to see you on The Con X tour. I was already on a massive high after the Van show not just because the show was mindblowingly amazing but I got to meet your mom and chat for what seemed like hours before and after the show (and get a hug) I was not not prepared for how stunningly beautiful the mountains were as we flew over. Sad that we were only there one night. Definitely want to come back some day. P.s. I love how your writing styles are so differentl. This is one of the reasons I love reading High School. I can hear the emotion in the words. You’re both so eloquent in your writing. ❤️❤️
I’m going to say this and I’m 100% honest, and it’s not just because I’m a huge fan of you, but the way you write is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. I can’t describe the way you make me feel when I read your words. The type of humor mixed with melancholic nostalgia you have in the style of writing is just unique and brilliant. Mixed with your soothing voice reading it, it’s just an experience a literature-obsessed person like me cherishes. I haven’t felt this way about anyone’s writing since I’ve read Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway for the first time. Always write!
Other than that, the cliffhanger at the end just makes it better. The amount of excitement I have for High School turning into a TV series is immeasurable. I’m already preparing my students for it, and I can’t wait for more people to discover you through the show. I also can’t wait until we get to know who’s playing you and Tegan. I hope we get to find out soon enough. Can’t wait for the second part of this.

I don’t think I will ever get tired of reading your pieces, Sara!! The way you write is always so captivating and the detail you put into your stories make me feel like I’m right there experiencing it as well! I can’t wait to hear more about the show and I can’t believe it’s already in pre-production!! Have the best time with this show, I just know it’s going to be amazing. Will we have a post dedicated to the High School show in the future??

One of my favorite things is going home to my hometown and remembering little things from growing up. It’s amazing how much these cities change though. Every time we go home there’s something new and it makes me appreciate the small things I loved more.
This makes me even more excited for the show, I can't wait to learn more! How far into production are we going to learn who the cast is? Please don't become a cannibal though, I just listened to a podcast where they mention a terrible disease you get from eating human brain, stick to coffee ❤️

The audio blog is magnificent; when I know such fine artists as you grew up here it makes me proud to be Calgarian. I'm in a band called Flood Plain here(singer is from high river). Have never seen you live so hope you will play some gigs or play weeds or something, please keep us updated! Also a final question but what was your reaction to the white stripes take of your song 'walking with the ghost'!? Epic track by the way!! Look forward to more blogs in YYC ☺️
So exciting to read about the start of the production for High School, I loved your memoir and I think having it actually set in Calgary will bring the stories to life. Looking forward to finding out more in Part 2! Is it weird for you returning to your hometown now you've 'made it' as successful musicians and writers? Has the pandemic made you more nostalgic for Calgary?

Congratulations on the production of your story! Also, I burst out laughing reading about your increased caffeine intake as the post went on…….I do this on a daily basis and I am often in awe of my stomach’s resilience.
I think it's so uniquely Canadian to want the world to see your hometown in the same nuanced way that you do. You grow up desperately wanting to leave, and then you spend your adulthood writing odes to some random street corner where you once had a life-changing kiss in the midst of the worst years of your life.
