I love the way Sara tells a story, it is so soft and engaging. Doesn’t matter what the topic is, it just draws you in. On the other hand Tegan has an ability to convey the funny side. Enjoy hearing from both of you. Take care.

To be honest, it felt like I was reading a 1920’s novel reading this post. Sara’s literary talent always fascinates me.

I’m going to be honest, Mickey is probably my favorite cat ever. Whenever I see pictures or videos of him I just think there’s no thought behind those precious eyes and yet he’s so content with being in your company.

I grew up with cats my entire life, but within the past year I’ve come to the sad reality that I am now allergic to most cats. I have two dogs, one being 13 years old, so I’ve become more of a dog person.

I remember when you first posted about Holiday and how excited I was that you and Stacy had a little cat of your own. Was there a certain cat breed you were looking for before you chose Holiday? Or was it love at first sight?

We were looking for Scottish Fold cats so it was definitely on purpose. But, Mickey captured our hearts because he was the last of the litter and he had a heart on his side :)

You guys are really putting in the work on these posts, love to hear it.

I have a 15 yr old dog who is very elderly, and relies on me to be with him constantly. I brought him home when I was 22 and he was 7 weeks old. I know my heart will never be the same when he goes, but I know he will be in my arms when he does.

I identify with this post on a deep level. As a young child I used to chase kittens at my grandpa's house that was always surrounded by strays, there are pictures of me full of scratches but still holding the kitten for dear life. I was 9 or 10 when my mom brought home a kitten she found outside in a box right around the time we discussed getting a dog with my brother, who I assume was really disappointed when we decided to keep the kitten and not get a dog. That was my first cat, Miller. After that we always had cats and I was the designated carer, until I moved away. I felt incomplete without a cat but I couldn't commit to getting one due to my unknown future in a different country so I looked up Fostering and I've been doing it for 4 years, best decision I made. When I have friends over they are an attraction lol but I live with a roommate so we have some rules in the house, if it was up to me: cats are allowed everywhere! It's not the case, so I'm again chasing cats, this time out of counters and shelves lol. Ps.: Don't tell Holiday, but Mickey is my favourite 👀🤍🖤

I’ve always wondered how you and Stacy came up with the name Holiday and Mickey, but that’s probably something personal. I love their names. Also, imagine cats on tour? Instead of cats having sushi in Tokyo, it would be Holiday opening for Taylor Swift and Mickey duetting with Tegan and Sara.

Loved this. My girlfriend has a cat who is....not friendly....so we don't have much of a relationship. We are going to get a second cat after we move in together this summer. I'm so curious to see what my relationship with him or her will be like - I've only ever owned a fish!

As a kid I had a dog called Bruce. He was a big dummy but gentle as they come. He was fiercely protective of me and my mum at night. When I moved into my own place we rescued two kittens, they were about 7 weeks old, they had been dumped in the trash and by sheer luck someone found them before the bins were emptied. They were brother and sister we called the ginger and white one Spook and his tortoishell sister Barrel (bazcat for short) Spook was born with slight brain damage so wasn’t able to do certain things like land on his feet like other cats (the birds seemed to know this and bullied him by dive bombing him so he fell off the fence into a crumpled heap) He was my boy. We lived by a graveyard so our two grew up and played with badgers. Spook was heavily reliant on me but his sis was extremely independent. Our latest rescue Mo (he loves your song to him btw) is the most vocal cat we have ever come across. He was another one who was dumped because he was the runt and also not full Turkish Van which is a huge no no for Turkish Van breeders. I find myself having full on conversations and sometimes arguments with him, he answers back, meows under his breath. Pretty sure he swears at me and would love to know what he’s called me. He’s an indoor cat so I feel you about worrying Mickey will escape. Mo gets bullied by the magpies and sparrows and there is a fox who comes in the garden occasionally. Mo goes full bog brush and into protect mode when it does. As I said in Tegan’s post, he also announces when he’s pooped. 😂😂 Do Mickey and Holiday speak to you. I can imagine Mickey being like that. By the way, how is Mickey’s anxiety now, I hope he’s better, he seems more chilled nowadays. Less raccoons to terrorise him I suppose. 😂 Well enough of my blah blah blahing. ❤️

Every morning I wake up with my cats head right next to mine and her paw on my face. It’s unspoken between cats and humans but I swear they love us lol. I think you described having a cat spot on, Nala will be 16 on 9/23 and is EVERY bit of a a teenager with minimal supervision and a slight attitude. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Just curious - when either of you are gone for longer periods of time, do the cats not leave your side when you are back? I left for 2 weeks and when I came back Nala slept on top of me for days. I think they do care when we aren’t there. Also great writing - every thought about witting a book? 😉

That picture of baby Mickey makes my heart melting, tbh, he looks like cinnamon roll with eyes, adorable. Fav one. “ I was content before they came into my world, but the before seems dimmer and less important than the life that came after” this is so true, cause for us they’re a part of our life, but for them we are their whole life.

I really relate to this, especially the part where you relate cats to teenagers. I always wanted a dog but decided that I’d take a swing with getting a cat and I ended up becoming a cat person because of it. When I first got my cat I just wanted to sit and stare at her all day. I was super protective over making sure she wouldn’t get out. We left a sticky note on all the doors leading to the outside saying “Kitty” just to remind us to close doors (I think we kept those notes up for a couple years before removing them). It took me months to get comfortable with just letting her walk on our enclosed pool deck. When people come over the first thing I say is to make sure that they close the doors behind them (one of our doors is a bit finicky and can crack open and I’ll just sit and stare at it dreading that the cat will escape- even if a fly couldn’t pass through the crack). When my best friend complains about trying to potty train her dog, or leash train, or get her to be calm at a dog park I just think about how grateful I am that all I had to do was show my cat her food and water dish then put her in the litter box once and bam she was fully trained. Sometimes I imagine what it would be like to own a dog, but I just don’t think that would suit me. I like to spend time alone and secluded and occasionally make an appearance around people. But sometimes I wish I could live in a bubble where no one can persevere me and I can just be around family or friends for a while then that would be idea. And I would describe my cat’s personality the exact same way. She loves to be in the same room as people but the moment we touch her or give her any attention she’ll just glance over at us or move out of reach. Trying to get the affection of a dog seems so simple. I mean dog owners always joke about “well if you just give sally here a dog treat then she’ll be your best friend”. But with my cat I feel like it took months for her to be comfortable enough to sleep around us, let alone be affectionate towards us. It feels so much more rewarding knowing that I’ve somehow earned her love. I sometimes recall (I think it was an episode of Judge Judy or something) where a dog was released into to court to settle who was the dog’s true owner and the dog immediately ran over to either the plaintiff or defendant and it was easily determined that that was the dog’s owner. Sometimes I’ll try to imagine if my cat was placed in a courtroom full of strangers and me, would she run to me? Would she wander around the courtroom to just anyone? Or, probably more likely, just not give a shit?
