Hello back, Tegan and welcome home. Maybe another group of spinoff posts...TRQ cooks? I’d subscribe of course. The only thing I’ve ever been really good at is eating.
On that note, the stew looks really good. I just finished lunch but want some of that! Cooking is relaxing AND eating out too much can get gross in a hurry.
Maybe we’ll recreate the stew in the Anania kitchen. Kate makes straight rhubarb crisp and it’s her best dessert. Looking forward to trying both. Yum!!
Thanks for the post. What’s your favorite part of the tour so far?
Now, I’m starving 😂! Are there any veggies you just won’t or can’t eat? At 43 I learned that Tomatoes cause inflammation in the body, as other night shades can, so I try and steer clear of them. For dessert I recommend a pretzel salad with strawberries and cream cheese!
Thanks for sharing, Tegan! That stew looks and sounds great, as does the crumble! Both are right up my alley. I love baking and cooking as well. Thanks Sonia for including that bit about the crumble being just as good with gluten free flour, that’s a must for me, and I’m always looking for new gf recipes. I bet reducing the sugar and experimenting with maple syrup would be delicious too.
Nummy! You look like a great cook. I’ll give those recipes a try. If you like vegetables, this is one I eat a lot in the winter. It’s good for you too!
VEGETABLE SOUP
3 cups vegetable broth or 3 cups chicken broth
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 can tomato paste
2 cups chopped cabbage
1/2 yellow onion
1/2 cup chopped carrot
1/2 cup green beans
1/2 cup chopped zucchini
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon oregano
salt & pepper
DIRECTIONS:
1. Spray fry pan with non stick cooking spray or a little oil
2 Saute onions, carrots and garlic for 5 minutes.
3. Add broth, tomato paste, cabbage, green beans, zucchini, basil, oregano and salt & pepper to taste in a large pot.
4. Simmer on low for about 45 minutes until all vegetables are tender.
It’s delicious! You can customize it a bit, adding different veggies as well!
Thanks for the post! When you can (I know you’re on tour now and I don’t expect it on tour) but please read the posts if at all possible, now substack thinks when I highlight the text in the post for Siri to read that I want to quote it.
Thanks for the post! It was interesting, personally I’m not into cooking, I like simple things that I can microwave or put in a Jaffle maker (or toastie thingy). Cooking’s never been something I enjoy, if you couldn’t tell by some of my darker comments I have depression and it’s been really bad lately so when I can motivate myself to go to the kitchen I like to make something easy. (A big reason is Grover (my dog) isn’t allowed in the kitchen and him and I are a bit co-dependant!) (Grover is in training to be my assistance (or service) dog to help with my mental health, so we’re supposed to be co-dependent).
Anyway that was a long winded way of saying cooking is tricky at the moment.
Things should get better for my mental health soon because assuming all goes well, I’m starting testosterone early August! I’m very excited!
Also all the anti-trans stuff in the news isn’t helping my depression (or my anxiety)!
Thanks for reading, whoever did!
Thanks for sharing with us Tegan. I might try the second recipe some day (I’m a vegetarian so I won’t be trying the first one).
Phoenix, he/they/it, 16, Australia
PS: Tegan if you do see this please say thanks to Sonia for adding vegan options, that was very thoughtful! Thanks Sonia!
Thanks for sharing the recipe, Tegan. I can barely cook and I don’t usually do because I’m always working, but I love to bake in my free time because I have a sweet tooth, so I’m definitely trying that.
I love a good soup, stew, ramen. Some say its not a summer food but I also still drink hot coffee in the summer so maybe I’m just strange. My husband has mastered the art of recreating the zuppa tuscana from olive garden in our instapot and it is highly addictive. Thanks for sharing recipes!
Wow both the stew and the crumble look delicious. Thanks Tegan and Sonia for sharing the crumble recipe. I like to bake too and am looking forward trying it out.
Oh Wow, thanks Tegan for both recipes, I will be making both soon. Maybe you should put the recipe for Skor bars on Substack. I haven't made them in a while, I have to find some room in my freezer. Thanks for the tips and recipes. I have to let you go, my cat is walking all over me and wants to play. Thanks for the awesome post. Later
Yum crumble! I hope tour (and taking a rest at home) are going well! I totally had a dream that I went to see a concert you guys were supposed to be headlining and it ended up being a low budget children’s Christmas production with about two featuring lines from Tegan and Sara, so I at least imagine touring must be going better than that hahah
That stew looks yummy my kinda food.Im lucky my partner Kate is a chef so I get such a good variety of home cooked meals, she spoils me.
Defo try the maple syrup,we replace a lot of sugar items with it also coconut sugar is good,I have to watch the sugar intake being diabetic.
We do a similar stew but if you like the heat add a couple of scotch bonnets to it,just make sure to take them out before you dish up lol.Kate also makes a mean chickpea and kale soup with plenty of garlic,I'm obsessed with garlic, omg I just love food 🧄🍲.
Both sound amazing. It's not baking but in the summer we like to throw frozen berries, honey, and almonds into a container and freeze them until we want a cool snack. I'd love to try the stew but it's been 108+F all week. 😅
Wow! Looks delicious. Once I get home from my week of dorm life at the school for the deaf in Austin, Tx I need to get the Ingredients for both I think my wife will love it.
Hungry?

Does Chef Tegan have an Indian curry recipe? It seems difficult so I like your throwing things together concept.

I'll definitely try this when it's not forty degrees.

Ciao tee!
41° (106F) where and that stew made me sweat just looking at it.
Crumble look great, let's cooking together on the cruise, as an Italian cooking is the closest thing to a religion I worship.
