Happy Christmas (for next week), & happy hibernation. I’m glad you’re both taking time for yourselves! In order to be creative, creative people have to take breaks and I think it’s awesome that you two are doing that!
Thanks for posting! All these question and answer ones are really interesting!
I am sad that you said you’re taking a break from substack too? I hope we’ll still get to see you both on here maybe just a lot less next year? Even if we don’t I hope it helps you both, and if we don’t see you on here next year I’ll miss hearing from you guys!
‘Happy belated birthday to anyone listening’ I’ll take it! It’s my birthday today! (Technically yesterday, I’m up late). Still trying to process the fact that I’m 18!
I was very excited to get the email that the mission statement for the TSF was changed to be more inclusive! I remembered you saying that it was in the pipeline!
I remember when I first read the original statement, as a nonbinary person, I felt left out. There’s no doubt women are discriminated against in so many ways even now and queer women even more so, but everyone can acknowledge that women exist, there are lots of people that won’t acknowledge ‘nonbinary’ (and other nonbinary identities) as a real thing. I’m not saying that’s what you were doing at all, it just kind of felt like when people say ‘ladies and gentlemen’ as their opening statement, and it reminds me that lots of people just don’t think about nonbinary people, we aren’t even visible. Thank you for changing the statement for more inclusivity!
Also thank you for all the work you both do with and for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community! And for the visibility you have been providing for queer people for literal decades! And lastly thank you for your amazing music! I can’t put into words how much your music has done for me personally, as a person with autism the world is often a difficult place to be in (especially outside my house) and having your music playing in my headphones has helped me through some situations that would’ve been a lot harder for me if I hadn’t had something familiar and comforting to help.
I don’t like to get all soppy all the time, but I wanted to say all that because I wanted to make sure you (preferably both of you) heard it before going offline.
Thank you! And thanks for sharing in this post too.
Thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions. So many, but you nailed it! I'm excited for what's to come next, even if it takes a long time. I'm also curious about what is Substack going to look like next year, or are you guys canceling it in 2025? Xx
I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt frustrated annoyance with the people begging to go backstage. Like, they knew it'd be a No so much they pre-wrote an "are you sure we can't?".....annnnd, you can't be THAT big of fans if you think that sense of entitlement would make T or S go "Oh! Okay then sure!". In light of all you guys have been talking about with fame, boundaries, fame, Fegan, and the need for a year-long break, I felt a groan of commiseration and compassion on your behalf.
...as well as with the exhaustion that must come from fielding the same questions for decades. So much care and compassion to you for just taking the time to answer and mustering all the thought and enthusiasm you can manage. May you both have a truly meaningful break this year. (Though, as a side note, do you know if that will impact Substack? I'm assuming yes? Was just curious if we should pause subscriptions (unless just wanting to provide tips of support) or not. With a Certain Someone's economy on the horizon, it's a real concern. <3) Sending love and care to you all and the broader community, <3
Not to be that guy but you both really do get asked the same questions repeatedly.
I know, right? And this is with them already taking out the ones that get repeated.
