There's a Brandi Carlile song I love that begins, "Welcome to the end of being alone inside your mind." It came out right after I had my second son, and it was one of those lyrics that knocked all the breath out of me the first time I heard it. My kids are 6 and 10 now, and they are still taking up most of my brain real estate.

Love it! He’s so sweet. The emotional weight of parenthood is so real. Mine are 16 and 18 now and it’s hard not to take their stuff on. You absorb their moods. You worry about them. You’re always thinking about them. The amount of hours I’ve spent awake just thinking about them and worrying about them (even though they are fairly easy kids) is amazing (also thank you 46 year old hormones and anxieties. You worry if they’re happy. You worry you’re enough. You worry about the things you might not know. It’s wild. Yet so so so worth it. Now I get why my mom used to say she could not sleep until she knew I was home. I’d respond with a snarky “are your feet tired? Would you like me to sit down?” What an ass I was. Sorry mom.

Aw Sara 🥹

Completely understand, Sid changes everything in so many ways then I’m sure you’d imagined, and this is clearly one of them!! 😊

And how can it not? I mean look at that video you just shared! 🥲 He’s so adorable, and you and Stacy are so lucky!!

And also remember that eventually, overtime, when your thoughts develop, and he develops even more than he already has. You can channel all of these beautiful and intense emotions, into your music. Or whatever you and Tegan want to channel your brilliance and creativity into next! ❤️💛

Sara, you’re so sweet. I’m not a mother, but I believe the feelings you have described are like those when you first fall in love; it’s fresh, new, a feeling that makes you giddy and anxious at the same time, and you’re obsessed with this person. Sid is lucky to have you as his mom. Can’t wait for him to duet Tegan and Sara 😉

What an honest and very relatable post! Thank you for sharing! Being a parent is an amazing privilege, so rewarding and special but also the source of daily worrying and soul searching, incase we are not good enough.

I'm sure that you are an amazing mum and that Sid is blessed to be part of a loving, supportive family. My kids are 'mostly' independent now but becoming a parent and helping them grow remains the most meaningful part of my life and something I am so grateful to have experienced.

The pure love and variety of other emotions that having children evokes will provide plenty of inspiration in the future im sure. Someone else has already mentioned Brandi Carlile and it reminds me of the song she wrote when her first child, Evangeline, was born, .

There is no hurry ....

Also congratulations to you and Tegan on being awarded your honorary doctorates! Go girls! xx

Is Sid's first song called the Balloon song, or is the balloon just there for inspiration?

This tune feels like something from Rent, and I'm curious to see where your artistic collaboration is headed.

Oof welcome to the weight of parenting. It doesn’t ever go away… you just become accustomed to it.

As my once toddlers drive off in their own cars these days it feels like part of me is out there flapping around in the wind. I can’t fathom the days when they don’t return home to sleep under the same roof together.

What a fucking wild ride!

Sara, this is lovely, highly relatable parent content. And the title of this post is the most applicable use of those song lyrics ever. Sid’s singing is so sweet, thanks for sharing! It sent me down the rabbit hole of watching old videos of Rosie at that age and now I’m a mess lol

Oh I love the 🎈 song. It’s my fav.

I mean “Jesus loves the little children”. Nothing wrong with writing about your child. They are, existential, I can imagine.

It’s funny you should talk about not writing song, emails, short messages etc because I feel like the last few months I’ve fallen off the whole messaging thing, Teamsing at work, texting some friends/family. To the point one of my friends I text a lot with asked if I was okay. I think it’s the working from home. I crave vocal contact haha.

Maybe I should have a child to write about. 😉
