Your voice and words fill me with nostalgia for the 2001 performance of My Number. It’s weird that I feel nostalgic toward something I haven’t even experienced. I was 7 in 2001 and I didn’t know you existed. Both performances of My Number and Yellow were beautiful, but I have to say that Yellow’s performance was honestly exceptional. Something about it was rather serene and calming. Your voice, the harmonies, the music; it was all just brilliant!

Hey Sara,

I’ve discovered a lot of your recorded live performances, but that one I hadn’t seen. I quite like ‘my number’ it’s a great song. Correct me if I’m wrong here but I always thought you wrote the song, is that true? It was a really great performance, you don’t often switch who sings with the verses, was that cause you were on tv?

I’m glad we got your perspective on performing again too after ages of not performing. Did you feel a sort of buzz from performing again after so long? You two were fucking incredible! When you mentioned on the substack zoom that you were going to be performing yellow live I checked every day, leaving a tap open with ‘Tegan and Sara yellow live’ written on it and reloading everyday to check if there was anything.

Also It was mentioned the next song from crybaby might be being released soon? That’s exciting! I love all of crybaby so far and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed. When it comes out are we getting a post from you about it? (Cause you wrote it, right?).

So excited to hear all of Crybaby!

I love Yellow so much (song and video)- I listen to it multiple times a day. I just got my tickets to see you at The Neptune in November. My first concert since the pandemic started. Feel lucky to catch you guys while you're still doing this <3

I was a freshman in college in Jackson, Miss., when this came out, and I downloaded a bootleg version off of Audio Galaxy. I didn't know any other gay people, so I watched this clip over and over again, full of longing. It was so fun to peer into a world where other gay people existed. It felt so far from me then, and I didn't know if I'd ever know people like that. Thanks for the reminder of how far I've come :)

Both performances are definitely in my top 10 most watched TnS videos, the songs themselves and your presence on stage are just so captivating, I'm sure they reflect how you felt and how much effort you put into that which makes me proud to be a fan. Thank you so much for sharing the other side of these experiences ❤️ ps.: I laughed at "our favourite restaurant"

Love that random detail.

I’ve watched Sweet November a million times (it’s a classic fav), it wasn’t til the last time – a few years ago – I heard in the background of that cafe scene My Number. I hadn’t really payed much mind to the song before then. The next day I played it on my way to work super loud. When I say it’s my second favorite Tegan & Sara song I’m not joking. I think it’s quite beautiful and powerful. I play it loud all the time on my way to the office. Makes me feel good. ❤️

I worked in a music store during my teen years and early 20s. One day my co-worker gave me This Business of Art and said “I think this is everything you’ve ever wanted!”. He couldn’t have been more right. From there on out I hit up every concert I could, small venues grew to bigger ones - it was cool to watch you grow. You both always met outside your bus to sign things - I got tons of signed posters, show tickets & CD covers. Your first 5 albums carried me through some of the hardest times of my life. Songs still choke me up, especially My Number. Superstar gives me confidence I never knew I had. Even still. When your style went more dance-like, it wasn’t so much for me, but I still bought the albums cause support takes a village and I’ll always owe you both for saving my sanity through those dark years. You’ve always created a way for fans to feel close to you, it’s cool. And appreciated. T&S will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for everything.

Wow that Letterman performance, really does sound great. And some of those photos! 🥹😊

Your performance and interview on Seth Myers really was brilliant, I haven’t stopped rewatching it since you did it.

Thanks for this Sara, good old My Number. Great great song.

Your My Number performance on Letterman is still one of your most iconic to date (love Tegan's rockstar moment at the end!) Your Seth Meyers performance and interview were awesome and loved seeing you on a late night talk show again. As someone who lives in a country where these shows don't get shown on TV so I have to watch them on YouTube the day after, it still feels significant for you to be on the lineup even if it isn't as make or break as it was pre-internet.

My Number is one of my all-time favourites of your songs.

I also loved the movie Sweet November as a kid and never realized you were on the soundtrack!

I love My Number. It’s one of the biggest inspirations for something I’ve been working on for quite a few years now. The song never fails to make me get all choked up.

I think this business of art might be one of my favorite tegan and Sara albums. I've been listening to it all morning. In fact, my "this business of art" CD from eBay came in the mail yesterday. It was very exciting, it looks so old timey lol (not in a bad way, but it's clear your band has gone a far way).
