Ps.: I just heard the voice note and as a Brazilian "I'm Still Here" is a must watch, especially in today's political landscape even though it happened in the 70's. I asked my mom to get me the book, very excited to read it. I also feel so very unsophisticated about my taste in media consumption compared to yours lol but I know it doesn't really matter. Don't feel bad about long voice notes, this is the space for that! :)

I've been looking forward to this post! All fours and adolescence are on my list and I'll check out some of the others you mentioned!

I'm currently reading Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg and Doppelganger by Naomi Klein. I recently read Love in Exile by Shon Faye and would really recommend! My local library is doing a book bingo which is encouraging me to read things I wouldn't normally.

I have so much I want to read and not enough time!

AI is destroying the planet, I refuse to engage with Chat GPT, the sudden rise of it in popular use scares me

I typed the words "I hate AI" earlier today to a friend, not even a joke lol I use it sometimes to check my grammar because English isn't my friend language and I feel bad every time lol

How interesting. I make lists to relax too.

A random collection of songs I've been digging lately:

-Fantastic Voyage by Coolio

-Good Luck Babe by Chappell Roan

-Hit That Perfect Beat by Bronski Beat

-Black Day by Depeche Mode

-Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot

-Atomic Dog by George Clinton

-Vampires by Radiorama

-This Night Has Opened My Eyes by The Smiths

As for other media...

I liked The Substance and have recently become obsessed with a show called Black Sails. And I just finished Walden by Henry David Thoreau.

I am a cancer but a virgo rising. Thing is nothing makes me happier and grounds me more than making lists and now i’m wondering if it’s the virgo rising in me or the coping mechanism i have developed to deal with adhd

I've been reading Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk by Kathleen Hanna (great, musical, and harrowing) and am swimming in 90s alternative (Weezer, Hole, Sonic Youth, Buffalo Tom, Garbage, Eric's Trip).

Also, I love listening to you and Tegan ramble.

Yay! I love these posts. I can’t wait to unpack it fully. I should read more but have been on a writing tear. One of my books is now at the Ottawa Public Library. That was a very pleasant surprise.

I’m watching Silo (season 2). It continues to be top shelf. And I love Rebecca Ferguson and glad she’s also the executive producer, too.

MUNA and Betty Who are new on my playlist and I’m just so pissed that I missed out on all this good music because of the toxic masculinity required when you’re in the Army. I’m glad I retired. 😊

Thanks for the great new additions to my media discovery. Looking forward to it.

I told myself I wouldn’t write any long posts anymore but alas, here I are.

I definitely should do a rewatch of madman. Every time I go to my local CVS a young guy that works there reminds me of Don Draper. I asked him about it last Halloween. Ha.

I’m currently obsessed with The Empyrean series (adult fantasy. Lots of straight sex… I skip). I started listening to Fourth Wing on audiobook, but then it got too good and I actually read it and all rest of the series. I’m still listening to the audiobook. I feel like I might restart them because I’m obsessed. I’m obsessed with the dragons for sure. Lots of tears.

Currently rereading Rebecca (love a gothic romance and it’s technically queer) for a bookclub but I didn’t finish it in time. I’m picking up today from the local bookstore, I’d ordered online, called The Kaiju Preservation Society. One of my coworkers suggested it. Neither one of those seem like books that you, Sara, would likely read by your suggestions, but maybe you’ll surprise me and you’ll read them.

Glad to hear you and Stacy recorded another episode of WDTGG and keeping it alive. – If Stacy ever needs a movie date, tell her to hit me up. L O L.

Have a good one.

Edit: That ChatGPT picture seems correct.

Thanks for the list and sharing your recommendations. All the media I’ve been consuming lately is very kid centered. Except love is blind, that was my recent mindless tv watch. Keep the interests of a 9.5 yr old in mind when reading my list.

Podcasts:

Goodnight, World! This is the kid pick. We listen to this 20 minute Sesame Street meditation most nights before bedtime. It really helps calm some bedtime anxiety recently.

My adult time has been very low lately and therefore my podcast listening has been low, though some days I listen Today in Gay here on substack while cleaning up the kitchen after breakfast time.

Books:

We are always reading. Currently reading aloud Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter, recently finished My Side of the Mountain and El Deafo (delightful graphic novel memoir)… all The Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels are in heavy rotation (sometimes Rosie reads them out loud to me and independently) Also I’m re-reading The House on Mango Street for probably the 20th time

I just started listening to The Friday Afternoon Club after a long break from audiobooks. Totally echo what you said about this type of memoir.

Film: Sweet Bobby thoroughly troubled me. Also been watching so many cult documentaries. Really in a documentary mood. I can’t stop.

TV:

Adolescence. Just started it. 😳

Watched all the episodes of No Taste Like Home with Antoni Porowski. Food, travel, ancestry, plus Antoni? SO GOOD. Awkwafina’s episode is particularly moving.

Music:

Wicked. nearly every day, sometimes several times a day. A request for Still Jealous was made the other day. But now back to Wicked lol

That was insanely long, and I hope to find more recommendations on here from other Loners 👀

Hey Sara,

Thanks for posting!

The political climate in America, I’ve been deliberately trying to avoid thinking about, I’ve been in a depressive episode for a long time now and that guy makes it worse (I wonder why *they say with heavy sarcasm*).

Podcasts aren’t really my thing, I’ll watch them on YouTube but because I don’t read books and I have to listen to them (in order to save energy due to being dyslexic), so because I have to listen to all my books, I usually do that for my listening and then I’ll sometimes watch a podcast. So I watch the chosen family podcast hosted by 3 women who are queer YouTubers I watch. One is a comic and provides some satisfying dark humour.

I love that you said ‘this is what my brain is like’ or something along those lines. I love the way both you and Tegan go on these ramble-y stories.

Sounds like I need to check out some e of your recommendations.

I binged adolescence too, I like that it’s similar to some real stories but not actually based on one, it’s more respectful to everyone involved when it’s done that way I think.

In terms of books, I’m not reading any new-er stuff but I recommend Jason June’s ‘the spell’s we cast’ and it’s sequel (I also like all of Jason June’s stuff, always has LGBTQ+ representation (which is refreshing). I recommend the books Ready player one and it’s sequel ready player two, if you’re a geek or nerd you will enjoy! There’s a film version of ready player one which was good but more mainstream than the book. Highly recommend the film too, but I’m almost always a book before film kind of guy.

In terms of tv shows, I’m re-watching sweet tooth (for the hundredth time), highly recommend to those who haven’t seen it. I love the series ‘heart break high’ (the remake, not the 90s version).

In terms of music, my second favourite band The Maes have realised a new song called ‘come alive’, highly recommend their music. They’re sister’s too (but not twins) and they do folk music. They used to be called ‘the Mae trio’ but their cellist left and they changed their name, I bring this up because their old stuff is still under that name, but I recommend their music under both names.

Thanks for sharing with us Sara! It’s good to have as many distractions as possible.

Phoenix, he/they, 18, Australia
