Your grandma is so sweet. ♥️ Grandmas really take it personally when you don’t like food they give you or make you. It’s endearing. Also, I’m suddenly craving fast food after this post.
It muse be a Grandma thing lol! When I used to visit my grandma, within 20mins of getting there we would have a mug of tea a plate of fries and a sausage sandwhich. Even my friends used to get the same. It was something she always did. She used to say “I can’t shower you with gifts but I can feed you” she was a cook when she was younger, even cooked for the Prince of Wales before he became King. A tiny woman but one of the strongest women I’ve ever known! ❤️❤️
I’m not a grandma but I always have something in case of visitors too! 😂 It’s definitely a grandma thing, My friends all called her nan Rose and used to visit her on their own. She loved it, loved feeding every one. Your grandma and grandpa, are they the ones who had the bar down in the basement?
This was a delight to read. My mom was adopted at birth and found her birth mother when i was 10. For a few months in my early twenties i ended up living with my grandma (mom's birth mom) and got her talking one day about the adoption. As she began talking about living in a home for pregnant girls, the process of finding someone, writing down your features and what hobbies you have (this was the 60's) i secretly got my phone out and recorded it. I knew i wouldn't get this much detail again. My grandma hates videos and photos (is this a grandma thing)? My favorite part of the conversation was telling her side of the story when she got a call one day on her landline (remember those) and someone on the other end said "Hi, are you first and last name? I think i am your daughter." My grandma said that day was the first day in 30 years she called into her job at a factory. It's one of the things i treasure the most, that very rare and raw conversation i recorded without her knowing. A long story made short but it reminded me of your recording at the end of your reading today. I'm sure you treasure those recordings and photos you have of your gramma and grampa so letting us in on a little piece of that is very appreciative. Thanks for sharing Tegan, you GEM! <3
Do you have a go-to fast good place on tour? The chicken combo at McDonalds? :)
Love this story Lauren. Thanks for sharing. I feel lucky to have so much footage of my family. And there is something really powerful about the recorded voice so I am glad you were able to grab some of yours. :) Re fast food and tour...let's get real. We eat it all! Ha.
And my favorite other part of the story is from my mom. She went to the high school where she thought her birth mother attended and flipped through the year books, saw her a face and gasped, “I look like someone”.
😂A grandparent/fast food story: My grandparents were also not big fast food eaters. But one time, decades ago, before I was born, my dad’s mom was traveling by train. The train arrived at a station early in the morning, and the station had a Burger King. My grandma had never been to a Burger King before, but being early in the morning, she wanted breakfast. She tried to order toast. The employee there must have had to explain to her that they don’t serve toast. And she responded, “what kind of restaurant doesn’t have toast?”
That phrase is referenced whenever remotely relevant, in my family 😂 What kind of restaurant doesn’t have toast? 😫
Sorry for your losses Donna. Sending love to you. I WAS the favorite grandchild. But it was also a joke amongst us grandkids. We were all her favorite. But I was actually the favorite. :)
Excellent story telling my Grandma is the same from a small farm town and originally from the Ukraine. I like the interviews I have to interview my OMA like this about the old days. Haha interesting way to eat chicken!!!
This really resonates with me. My Gram was an amazing cook too, although she LOVED going out to eat. I love your grandma's sass, as I come from a long line of sassy women too! ;) I love posts like this.
I love this random grandparent memory. My grandma loved Wendy’s and insisted they had great salads. We just passed the one year anniversary of her passing so I’m definitely in a tender place when it comes to grandma stories but I still enjoyed this one and the sound clip at the end.
Wooo, my grand mother passed away 2 weeks ago so this post resonates a lot (and also reminds me that time she took me at the cafeteria and I threw up on the table... she never took me again. Cool story😂😂)
And not related, but yesterday you tweeted about venue taking % from artist’s merch sales. Would it be possible to make a "pre show virtual table merch"? We buy online and just pickup the stuff at the venue. The venue couldn’t charge you for those sales (I guess).
I loved reading about you reminiscing about that time with your grandparents. My grandma ALWAYS cooks at home and never goes out to eat. I do remember when I was younger when she decided go take me out to some fast food place and I was so shocked; I didn’t know how to act! My grandparents always try to cook for us and its nice to have a home cooked meal, especially when I come home from college.
I also remember feeing embarrassed when going to McDonald’s with my grandparents because of the fuss they would make over the food if I was being picky.... So reading your post about your time with your grandparents at fast food restaurants made me remember my own childhood!

Always have something in the freezer in case guests stop by. That was my gramma too!

I'm not crying, you're crying
"So there!" Feisty gramma. ♥

HAHAHAHAHAH
Your grandparents were awesome. Favorite grandchild!?!?!. Wish mine were still here. Even my mom… thanks

Thank you. I wish I could say it gets easier but it doesn’t. Thank you so much.

Ohhhh my heart, that audio at the end is so precious. ❤️
Wendy’s has the BEST chicken nuggets. Also, your Gramma sounds awesome. ❤️
Wish I had my grandparents. Hell I wish I had my mom back too….

Thanks for commenting Nicole! Glad you enjoyed it
I would have loved to meet my grandparents, because as almost all people describe theirs, they sound so truly loving and sweet.

Sorry for your loss Sarah. I love that your gramma loved the salads at Wendy's. That made me smile.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Gramma. Hope this story brought some joy.
Good idea

Ah! Glad it resonated. And glad we were not alone in having that experience!
