Tegan, One of my earliest memories is of you suffering from an earache. It's more like a photograph in my mind—our living room in Marlborough Park, with its brown carpeting and couches, dimly lit. You were on Dad's lap, crying, and so was he. Whether he truly cried alongside you, I cannot be certain. But does the accuracy of his recollection matter in this instance? Helplessness best describes the feeling. There's a sense of stillness, as if we were waiting for a bus. Perhaps we were indeed waiting—for medicine to take effect or for your crying (and his) to subside. Questions arise: Where was Mom? Was it truly you on Dad's lap? Like many childhood memories, I ponder if reality has been distorted. Sometimes, a reliable narrator (Mom) reveals that it wasn't as I remembered. Similarly, regarding your nightmares, I recall experiencing them when, in fact, it was you who often woke in the night, crying out in terror while I observed from the doorway as our parents comforted you back to sleep.
Aww poor baby, the audio is heartbreaking, does he understand that something is wrong? He doesn't seem bothered at all. I'm glad his wheezing stopped and I hope he fully recovers soon. The picture of the 3 of them together is everything! Thanks for sharing ❤️
Awwww his cute little voice. His wheezing, though, poor baby. I hope he’s better now. Thank you for this sweet little post. It’s so wholesome watching you as a mother. Proud of you. Does Sid have a favorite cartoon or show?
Ah yes, the leverage of screen time when sick is typically understood in the second year of life lol It remains a strong manipulation tactic for Rosie now at 8.5 years old. I imagine the memory confusion is so heightened being twins; there are a few mixed up memories I have had, and later realized or was told that it was a similarly aged cousin or my older brother who actually experienced the memory. Maybe I was a just a very detailed, empathetic observer. I hope Sid is doing well, and hope you all have a healthy holiday season 🧡
I mean who doesn’t have a case of bronchitis. Rude. Hope he’s doing well as well as you and Stacy.
I never was sick as a kid. My mom said it’s cause my great grandmother filled me with cod liver oil and caster oil. I’m not complaining about that remedy. I still do the cod today and rarely get sick.
Thanks for posting! And for the gorgeous sound clip of you and Sid.
I hear foot and mouth disease has been going around in babies lately, my cousin (the one around 2 months older than Sid) got it too at daycare. We had to lookup what it was, none of us ever having heard of it.
I can’t imagine what I’d be like to have confused memories with someone who looks almost exactly like me. I remember you guys mentioning that in your book too (Tegan did I think), I remember feeling so gobsmacked.
According to my parents I had loads of ear infections as a young child. We have a famous (famous to me) rocking chair that was the only time I’d get any sleep when I had an ear infection. I think it’s fitting that now Grover (my dog, and kind of like my child in some ways) now gets to have the blanket from that rocking chair.
As a person who has anxiety too, I can’t imagine what it’s like parenting a human, I’m having enough trouble parenting my dog!
I hope Sid is feeling loads better now, and I’m glad he didn’t seem fazed by the cold, that’s a good sign, right? Looks like the cats were trying to look after him too. Are they going alright with him?
Yes, isn't it amazing how just visiting a medical/health facility seems to cure whatever ailments before taking what would be prescribed?!?! Ugh, but I hear you - it's the reassurance that you tried to do something about it, to try to "solve the problem". You don't even wanna fathom the thought of what might happen if you didn't go see a health professional.
I find it so emotionally draining to see my kid being sick all the time since he started daycare. It's the helplessness and the worry that I might be missing something that kill me. It's also physically tiring as we almost certainly end up being sick as well...
Bluey is our go-to show on sick days or teething nights.
Looks like quality Ms. Rachel screen time though! We have an 18 month too so the struggle is beyond relatable! Hope everyone feels well enough to enjoy the holidays. 🖤
I'm not sure anyone ever wants to hear this, except in your case bc, well, Sonia is amazing, but you sound like your mother. Your voice in this clip echoes hers in the "it's my tape recorder" proclamation. Time to make a "sewing room" for Sid.
That happens to me once in awhile. I'll be experiencing all these symptoms and make a doctor's appointment and then when the doctor's appointment happens, all of the symptoms magically vanish.
Oh No, so sorry Sid is sick. It's heartbreaking seeing your child sick, you feel bad for them. Cute pic of Sid and the cats. They look like they all get along, I hope it's true. Thanks for the post Sara, please continue to post Sid and cat pics. Love them all. Later.
That audio is heartbreaking and also so sweet, as someone who has asthma, I know the sound of wheezing all too well. Glad this turned out not to be this ☺️
Seeing as a mother Sara honestly fills my heart with so much joy 🥹
Thank you for sharing, the picture too is adorable! ❤️

Ah yes, the combination of a new immune system dealing with germs and the magnetism of children seeming to attract said germs. Ugh.
Best to err on the side of caution, yeah?
I hope the boy feels better soon, the little cutie patootie. ❤️

Awwwww ♥️(you're such a great mom)
I hope he’s feeling better! I adore his curls and the cats in boxes 😂
