LOVE the song, and already mentally comparing it to white knuckles / 100x. i'm not a twin but i know as the younger sister i struggled a lot with figuring out who i was as a separate person and not just copying everything my older sister did - when she went off to college and i was still in high school it felt like an abandonment, even though it's just growing up. v much relate to the concept of turning over and ruminating on the past, but also looking at emotional progress.

also love the album title, i v much ID as a crybaby. i've found that the times in my life where i'm not crying much at all are usually when i'm the most deeply sad or numb, and it's a sign that i'm doing well when i tear up often! can't wait to cry to the whole album

What a great observation. I too have experienced periods of my life where I didn't cry but it wasn't because I was happy, it had so much more to do with being shut off from my feelings, or pain.

The way you write about your twinship and the struggles of loving and hating someone so intensely is so healing. It’s helping my twin and I find a way to navigate the world as “twindividuals” - figuring out what it means to be both together and apart, making room for both of us to exist while feeling like there simply isn’t enough space to contain us. And the compromise, sacrifice, and ultimate reward that comes with this special relationship. Thank you for your twinsights.

I hope we can share more and expand on this topic in the future! I'm founding it newly fascinating!

Just bought VIP tickets to your concert in Philadelphia. Was supposed to see you in Glenside in 2019, but didn’t make it. Thought I would catch you the next year, not knowing what the future held and that a global pandemic would shut the world down for over two years. So glad to be seeing you for the first time, finally!

I love how all Sara’s songs are about Tegan.

*Edit: Have you, Sara, written a song directly about Montreal since it was transformative for you?

Expand full comment

Interesting...a lot of my songs were written during my Montreal years but I don't think I've specifically written ABOUT Montreal. Maybe I will!

At least for yourself ☺️

Love the implications of this. If its about Montreal its gotta be at least half in French! Next stop on the T&S transformation journey : multi lingual songwriting.

How do I convince my wife that 1 month postpartum would be a great time to go see y’all in Ventura or San Fran… ?? Ventura in our home town or two hours away from us in San Fran.

Yellow is amazing! And you both and your music have been a consistent and important connection point in our relationship.

Thank you for making the concerted effort to share what you're willing to share via the annotations. Love this "Yellow" song, by the way. Can't wait to hear Crybaby in its entirety.

Appreciate your annotations and the will to remain private regarding your lyrics. When I compose a poem, I’m always scared to show it to people thinking they’ll ask me what it is about when I want them to interpret it the way they want. It’s even more awkward showing it someone who can tell what it is about since they know you well. It’s like I am exposed. I imagine it might be the same, but I love that you gave us that little insight. Love the song so much. Has been on repeat since yesterday. I must say, it reminds me of a Taylor Swift song that I still can’t figure out yet.

I am also wondering what have inspired the title of this album since there’s no song called Crybaby. Love it very much and the metaphor the artwork shows (Amazing job, Emy), but I am wondering why this title. Will we ever know?

More on the title of the album soon...

"Our journey to individuate has always meant growing a little further apart. It's painful, but necessary." -I relate to this so much as a twin, I've definitely struggled navigating the relationship as adults, now we live in different countries and only see each other a couple of times a year, it's hard but I also found myself when I was forced to step outside of that comfort blanket for the first time. Growing up everyone knew both of us together and it's weird now that I have friends who only know me.

I absolutely love Yellow and think the lyrics are your strongest yet, so powerful, and it is so catchy, I can't stop listening to it! I am really looking forward to Crybaby and the new era. It's great getting the behind the scenes with your blogs

LOVE the song, video, and album cover! Hoping I can make the NY show - fingers crossed! I so appreciate the depth with which you and Tegan talk about and work on your relationship with one another. It's so rare to see this kind of attention paid to any relationship, especially a non-romantic one.

Absolutely love Yellow. It’s such a beautiful song and the video suits it perfectly 💛 As a listener it is nice knowing context when it comes to lyrics of songs but there’s also the feelings that come over you when you listen to a new song for the first few times, where you find your own meaning and I love that. Very excited to see and hear this live later this year 🥹🥰

Yellow has been added to the short list of songs about your twïn tribulations that , for me, align with the fact that I have essentially always grappled with a previous version of myself. A person who looks a lot like me , approaches the world in a similar fashion but is still fundamentally different in some way. She’ll never go away and I will never be her again so I have to figure out how to live with her when she just wants back in my head
